From PE Skipper to Running Mum: How an Out n About Nipper Sport Transformed My Fitness Journey with Family

It’s hard to believe that growing up, I’d avoid anything sports-related, often finding ways to skip PE. Now in my early 30s, I’ve found a love for outdoor activities, often with my little family by my side.

Exercise became an important part of my routine after university—not just for physical health, but for mental well-being too. The rush of endorphins from a good run or the sense of achievement after a workout has always helped me unwind from busy days as a pharmacist.

When my husband and I welcomed our daughter, Hattie, now 20 months old, I initially worried that I’d have to give up my hobbies. Little did I know that from six months old, she’d join me on runs in a pushchair, and we’d soon have family outings as part of our routine.

During pregnancy, I stayed active and managed to run up until just five days before Hattie was born. My last pre-baby run was at the Yarborough Leisure Centre Parkrun.

We were back two days after she was born, with her dad pushing her while I watched on. This balance allowed me to enjoy my passions without losing my identity.

We researched running pushchairs and landed on the Out n About Nipper Sport. My husband surprised me with one when Hattie was just three weeks old. While we didn’t start running with it immediately, we loved how well it handled walks even in rough terrain.

At six months, when Hattie could sit independently, we began running together regularly. From local 5Ks to training for the Great North Run, she was always with me. Running became something I could share with her, and I even became a bit of a local celebrity for running with my daughter in the pushchair.

Now, we’ve upgraded to the Nipper Sport V5 and passed on our V4 to another family. Having the Out n About pushchair means we’ve been able to continue doing what we love while bringing Hattie along on our adventures. Whether it’s day-to-day errands or big running events, our active lifestyle wouldn’t be the same without it.

Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the memories we’ve made and the fact that I can still enjoy being active, now with my little one by my side. For anyone who’s nervous about balancing fitness and family life—trust me, it’s possible, and the journey is worth it.
